Tech Innovators To Offer Insights On IE Startup Opportunities

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Innovators, investors and tech sector insiders convergeed on Riverside Monday and remain all week, sharing their knowledge of what it takes to get an enterprise off the ground and where the opportunities might be in the Inland Empire.
The inaugural Riverside Techstars Startup Week is scheduled Monday through Friday at multiple downtown venues, including the Box Theater, City Hall and the Riverside County Administrative Center.
"Startup Week is a testament to the business growth and excitement generated by our entrepreneurial ecosystem in Riverside," Mayor Rusty Bailey said. "If you believe in the entrepreneurial spirit, Startup Week is the place for you."

The five-day event is intended to open prospective tech entrepreneurs' eyes to digital development possibilities and how to take advantage of changes in the marketplace, according to organizers. There will be numerous mentoring workshops, networking mixers and talks from business leaders.
"This regional event will allow all inland Southern California entrepreneurs to come together and learn how to pitch to investors, build a minimal viable product, monetize their apps and source new team members for their startup," said Steve Massa, the city's economic development coordinator.

Among those slated to speak are Scott Miller, inventor of the Roomba self-guided vacuum, Jason Calacanis, a seed investor for Airbnb and Uber, Gordon Bourns, chairman and founder of engineering firm Bourns Inc. in Riverside, and Jack Dangermond, CEO of Redlands-based ESRI, a mapping software firm.
"Launching our first Startup Week is a huge step to promoting our region as a destination for startup activity," Councilman Jim Perry said. "I'm excited to see the ideas and future businesses that eventually matriculate from such an effort."
All of the workshops, talks and mixers are free. However, due to space limitations, not everyone may gain entry, depending on the venue.
