SAN DIEGO, California, 11th July, 2017 (WAM) -- A delegation from the Smart Dubai Office is in San Diego, California, to take part in this week's ESRI User Conference and the ESRI Senior Executive Summit on July 9th and 10th. Organised by the Environmental Systems Research Institute, ESRI, the two events are leaders in Geographic Information Systems, GIS, and their applications.

SDO Director-General, Dr. Aisha bint Butti bin Bishr, headed the delegation and opened the ESRI Senior Executive Summit where she presented a comprehensive paper detailing the plans and visions of the Smart Dubai Office, and revealed the office's path-breaking success in implementing the latest technology to serve the community in Dubai.

"Such gatherings offer fertile ground for cutting-edge technologies and GIS innovations. The two events are ideal for us to network and to forge solid business and strategic partnerships with world-leading organisations working in this field. They offer us an opportunity to exchange expertise and examine what other smart cities are doing to advance our own Smart Dubai Vision 2021," she said.

During a panel discussion with ESRI's CEO Jack Dangermond, Dr. Bishr shed light on Dubai's successful GIS-based application, the ‘Dubai Pulse' platform, which acts as the backbone of the emirate's shift towards smart technology. Dubai Pulse plays a critical role in integrating data, supporting decision-making, and facilitating the exchange of open and shared data between the public and private sectors, as well as individuals.

The SDO Director-General went on to discuss the Dubai Blockchain Strategy, which aims to conduct 100 percent of government transactions in Dubai using paperless Blockchain technology by 2020. The strategy promotes Blockchain to private entities and works to transform Dubai into a global hub for Blockchain technology.

"We have noticed remarkable interest in Dubai's, and the UAE's, smart transformation experience. Cities and municipalities around the world are taking note of our significant contributions to the global smart-city movement and our success in implementing advanced geomagnetic technologies to provide the best-in-class services to the public," Dr. Bishr noted.

The ESRI User Conference attracted nearly 16,000 visitors and GIS specialists from all around the world. The conference places the spotlight on GIS technology, positioning it as the most important strategic business resources as it provides accurate data that enables policymakers to set sound strategies, in addition to improving the quality of services using interactive maps.
