The deadline to register to vote is Monday, Oct. 24, and SCV residents are encouraged to register if they have not already by applying online at lavote.net or mail in or drop off filled out registration forms at 12400 Imperial Highway, 3rd floor (room 3002) in Norwalk, CA 90650.

“There are a lot of places and option in the county to go register” said L.A. County public information officer Brenda Duran. “All eligible citizens are able to register to vote online or pick up registration forms from post offices or libraries.”

Voters are encouraged to check their registration status online before the deadline on Monday. Residents can also see the candidates who are participating in this year’s election by clicking here.

Translated voting materials in Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, Spanish and any other languages are also available to voters by calling (800) 481-8683.

The LA County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk will also be integrating geospatial technologies and Snapchat to help promote voter participation and improve election operations.

A mobile app called “Workforce for ArcGIS” will be used to help resolve troubleshooting issues. When election day comes each year, troubleshooters are deployed throughout the county to help solve any polling place issues that may need resolution. The app helps dispatchers track the troubleshooters before contacting them with information on the polling place and the problem.

The department will also be promoting the participation of voters by using a geospatial feature on Snapchat where geofilters will be made available on the app. Snapchat geofilters are graphical overlays that help communicate the “when” and “where” of a particular snap.

The county hopes that through meeting the voter registration deadline and by implementing their technologies and social media accompaniments, voters will participate much more in the democratic process.

“We really want to encourage people to participate in voting this year,” said Duran. “It’s a civic duty we should all be able to partake in.”

Santa Clarita Valley voters are able to drop off their mail-in ballots between now and Monday, Nov. 7, at the city clerk’s office in City Hall on the first floor, located at 23920 Valencia Boulevard. For more information on voting in Santa Clarita, please click here.
